"Let the beauty of what you love be what you do." ~Rumi
I am a certified professional midwife and an Oregon licensed midwife. My role as a midwife is to respect a woman's birthing choices and to help guide birth towards a healthy outcome for both mother and baby.
I provide individualized midwifery care which allows for each birth to be guided by a mothers own terms and by informed choices.
I practice according to the Midwifery Model of Care (http://cfmidwifery.org/mmoc) which is based upon that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. My midwifery training enables me to manage healthy, normal pregnancy and birth with its variations. I am also trained in identifying actual or potential complications, provide emergency treatment until additional assistance is available, and refer women who may require obstetrical attention. Midwife attended homebirthing is a safe experience for both the mother and her baby.
I have three beautiful children and feel very blessed to have had the option to choose a homebirth midwife attend all of my birth experiences. I birthed by cesarean, VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) and also had a lovely homebirth. Eugene has been my home for 20 years.
Student Midwife: Katie Safley is attending births gathering knowledge and skills, learning the tradition of homebirth midwifery care. She has also completed a doula training course at Birthingway College of Midwifery in Portland, Oregon. She is certified in adult CPR by the American Heart Association.
